Introduction to Scentwork - Taster Evening
Ever wanted to try scentwork? Bring your dog or puppy along for an interactive taster session - try this fun and popular sport which makes the most out of your dog's extremely powerful nose!
Time & Location
13 Apr 2022, 18:00 – 19:30
Hunston Village Hall, Hunston, Chichester PO20 1AW, UK
About the Event
Have a go at scentwork during this taster evening and see what it's all about! Spectators without dogs are also welcome - this will be a great evening to watch before bringing a new dog/puppy home if you've been considering scentwork as a fun activity to do with them.
Emily will introduce you to the foundations needed for training a dog or puppy to succeed in scentwork and detection, similar to how she trains her conservation dogs. She will take you through various games and exercises you can do to harness their inner sniffer dog, how to motivate your dog, a bit of theory on how a dog's olfactory system works, and how you can use scentwork to grow your dog/puppy's independence and confidence. She will also talk you through the various competition styles you can participate in which she can help you prepare for.
Please bring lots of high-value treats, toys, and a blanket/mat. Dogs/puppies should be happy to settle on a mat between turns.
Doing this taster session (and homework!) you will be well-equipped to start attending regular classes or 121s where we can move onto the next steps.
